The Audition Process

UPCOMING AUDITIONS

MARCH 9-12, 2020

Auditions can seem like an intimidating process, but there are activities to help interested students become more acquainted with the choir such as the Junior High Madrigal Singers and Pizza Meet-n-Greet. While these activities aren't required to participate in, it's an excellent way to meet other interested singers and have fun! Our next meetup is at Steve's Pizza, February 20, 2020 @ 6:00pm.

The Madrigal auditions for this year are closed, thank you to everyone who auditioned!

1.

Know your schedule and possibly any conflicts for auditions week

2.

Prepare a song, preferably memorized. If an accompanist is required for your audition, you  must arrange this individually- an accompanist will not be provided. Your type of piece should be either Classical or Folk Songs. No folk MUSIC or Gregorian chant.

3.

An email will be sent to you with separate audition times for the sight singing portion as well as your prepared piece. Make sure you arrive fifteen minutes early to both times, well-dressed in business-casual, and warmed up.

THE PROCESS

SIGHT SINGING- In this portion, you are given one minute to study 1-2 lines of music given to you, which you will then sing. (Fixed solfege and movable "do" are not required, singing on "la" is perfectly fine). Before beginning, you will be asked the key of the excerpt, and you will be given a starting pitch. This slot will also include testing your vocal range and pitch matching skills, where you will be given a series of five notes on the piano which you will repeat. No accompanist required for this section.

PREPARED PIECE- Arrive warmed up and ready to perform your piece. it is alright if you wish to sing a section of your piece instead of its entirety, you might be stopped if it is too long. Be ready to introduce yourself, announce the name of the piece, and its composer. Your accompanist should arrive fifteen minutes before your scheduled audition, but are not required to arrive earlier or stay longer. When you have finished, congrats! You have completed the toughest stage of the audition!

CALLBACKS- Callback announcements usually occur no more than one week after all auditions are complete,. To prepare for callbacks you must memorize this SATB Bach Chorale arrangement, where you will prepare the part that is most appropriate for your voice. An email will be sent out soon after to confirm the new Madrigal members.

Best of luck!
